Abstract

Academy of Management Annual Meeting Proceedings includes abstracts of all papers and symposia presented at the annual conference, plus 6-page abridged versions of the “Best Papers” accepted for inclusion in the program (approximately 10%). Papers published in the Proceedings are abridged because presenting papers at their full length could preclude subsequent journal publication. The symposium Bringing Life and Livelihood Together: Work as a Calling is centered on the theme of work as vocation or calling. The symposium examines the concept of vocation from a variety of theoretical and applied perspectives. The panel will be of interest to attendees because they not only teach and do research on related areas, but are also on their own spiritual journeys. Session attendees should find the opening presentations and subsequent discussions applicable to their own career explorations. Five presenters will each give short opening presentations, followed by a discussion among the panelists and with the audience. The symposium Are Markets Made in Heaven? Critical Junctures in the Spiritual Perception of Market Behavior proposes to comment on important turning points in the development of economic theology as it relates to various aspects of market exchange, particularly in the western world. The symposium Critters and Converts in Dialogue: Integrating Critical and Spiritual Paradigms in Management fosters a dialogue between Critical Management Studies and Management, Spirituality and Religion interest groups of the Academy. Also their interrelationship is explored from two knowledge domains, epistemological stances and personal development.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Vol. 2003, No. 1 Permissions Metrics in the past 12 months History Published online 13 December 2017 Published in print 1 August 2003 InformationCopyright of Academy of Management Journal is the property of Academy of Management and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder’s express written permission.
