Abstract

Among the crop of books on ophthalmology published this year, there are three or four which deserve be best-sellers. This is one of them. I took it hand with little enthusiasm. What a chore it will be, I thought, to read a book which cannot tell me anything new. I was mistaken. It was a pleasure read a book, however familiar its material me, by a man who loves the subject and loves his patients. This is a fine and very humane book, written with the warmth of genuine interest and with the wisdom of experience. There is a lot in it which is new me. The book is also very well written, in clear, straightforward, and readily quotable sentences.
