Abstract

The original reasons for membrane removal, to prevent constriction of the growing brain or reaccumulation of subdural fluid, no longer appear cogent in most cases of chronic subdural hematoma in infants. Rather, the objective of treatment—relief of intracranial hypertension and prevention of its sequelae—appears to be served equally well in most patients by tapping alone, repeated as necessary.
