Abstract

Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDSs) are rare disorders of the connective tissue. The subtype important to vascular surgeons is vascular subtype IV. The reported operative mortality ranges from 7% to 41%. EDS-IV only affects 5% of all cases of EDS, leading to limited experience and society guidelines regarding the management of vascular complications. We report the case of a common iliac artery dissection with associated rupture resulting in acute limb ischemia in a 28-year-old man with EDS-IV. An endovascular stent was used to successfully restore flow and repair the iliac arterial rupture, minimizing access site complications with specific open exposure techniques.
