Abstract
State institutions are increasingly faced with the management of the ever-growing religious diversity in the Austrian society. This pluralistic landscape has given rise to various contentious issues in state institutions in recent years, especially with regard to questions concerning equality of legal and institutional provisions and practical matters among major and minority religious communities. The aim of this chapter is to give an overview of legal regulations in Austria concerning individual and collective rights in the religious sphere, as well as to examine the current efforts of these institutions in dealing with this diversity. Drawing upon literature, laws, institutional regulations and empirical research, the analysis reports inequalities in accommodating religious minorities on a legal and institutional level, based on which implications for future practise will be suggested.
