Abstract

(Editorial comment: A carotid artery resection for a squamous carcinoma of the head and neck remains highly controversial and of questionable benefit. The authors demonstrate with this case report that patients undergoing carotid resection may suffer serious neurologic sequelae, even when adequate cerebral cross profusion has been shown. These observations have implications for all patients undergoing vascular surgery of the head and neck.)
