Abstract

Small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) has become one of the most commonly performed modern-day refractive procedures, with one of the intraoperative surgical complications being suction loss. In this study, incision failure due to suction loss in SMILE and its management with manual incision are reported. In all cases, lenticule was extracted from the manually placed incision with surgical blade. No intraoperative or postoperative complications were observed, with significant visual outcome of 20/20 in all cases. Hence, manual incision could be considered as an option for the management incision failure during SMILE.
