Abstract

Idiopathic ventricular fibrillation is a relatively rare cause of lethal arrhythmia, which has gained increased recognition during the last decade. Several therapeutic approaches have been adopted worldwide. The present review discusses these various approaches. Implantation of an automatic defibrillator is the most commonly recommended mode of therapy for patients with idiopathic ventricular fibrillation. Our own results, however, suggest that antiarrhythmic treatment with Class IA agents using an electrophysiologic‐guided approach is possible and may provide a safe and low‐cost alternative to implantable defibrillators in selected cases.
