Abstract

Laparoscopic management of hepatic hydatid cysts is associated with lower postoperative morbidity in an approach to this problem. The laparoscopic management requires preoperative imaging to locate and map the cysts before the endoscopic surgical procedure is commenced. This chapter deals with the operation room setup, patient positioning, special instruments and port placement sites for the laparoscopic management of hepatic hydatid cysts. The indications, contraindications, preoperative considerations, technical notes and procedural variations for this technique are also listed. High-quality images demonstrate the procedural steps of laparoscopic management of hepatic hydatid cysts.
