Abstract

The paper presents the procedural model of managing an IT organization, at the same time representing the basic ideas and goals of IT management. The use of IT is no longer sufficient only on the operative level ; IT investments are expected to improve business processes, connect the value chains and expand the business strategy. In order to achieve this, the company must develop adequate methods of planning and management of IT organization, and deliver a higher level of maturity of IT organization. The key criteria for the transformation of an IT organization and its planning at higher maturity levels are: vision/strategy ; processes ; staff ; technology and culture. The paper analyses two methods supporting the management of IT organization in a consistent way, with the purpose of realizing IT Governance: IT Balanced Scorecard and COBIT. Their joint focus is to join business and IT strategy ; ensure IT contribution to business ; standardize IT processes ; adequately manage IT resources and monitor implementation of IT strategy and IT process performance.
