Abstract
For Scheler, the line between philosophical anthropology and sociology was very thin. Since man is other-oriented in his most original experiences, since man is social prior to being individual, the study of man necessarily and intrinsically includes the study of the social nature of man. Furthermore, both anthropology and sociology must be renovated according to the phenomenological criteria demanded for all strict sciences.
