Abstract

In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul had it that (XIII, 9), know in part, and we prophesy in part. This Pauline doctrine is in force throughout this deadly serious account of what research workers are thinking about for the world of tomorrow. The Ciba Foundation arranges small international conferences, most of them concerned with specialized and fundamental aspects of medical research. The symposium that resulted in this book was held in London and was attended by 27 distinguished men (among them six Nobel Laureates) as follows: Lord Brain, John F. Brock, J. Bronowski, G. Brock Chisholm, Colin G. Clark, Alex Comfort, Carleton S. Coon, F. H. C. Crick, Artur Glikson, J. B. S. Haldane, Hudson Hoagland, Sir Julian Huxley, M. Klein, Hilary Koprowski, Joshua Lederberg, F. A. Lipmann, Donald M. MacKay, P. B. Medawar, Hermann J. Muller, Alan S. Parkes, Gregory Pincus, N. W. Pirie, D. J.
