Abstract

(Abstracted from Gynecol Oncol 2022;165:309–316) Nutritional status has been shown to independently predict postoperative morbidity and mortality among patients undergoing surgery for cancer, including gynecologic cancer. Many definitions of malnutrition have been proposed, including the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) definition as a combination of 2 factors: body mass index (BMI) 18.5–20 if age <70 years or BMI 18.5–22 if age >70 years, as well as unintended weight loss of >10% over any period of >5% over 3 months (ESPEN 1).
