Abstract

Allergic skin diseases include urticaria, contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, etc. The etiology of allergic skin diseases is associated with the interaction between environmental and individual factors (especially impaired skin barrier function). Now glucocorticoids are the most effective treatment option for these diseases, however, long term use of them may cause a series of side effects. Malleable protein matrix is formed by the fermentation of Lactobacillus kefuanofaciens in whey protein-containing medium. It has been revealed that malleable protein matrix has anti-inflammatory effects and can elicit innate immunity. Since the consumption of malleable protein matrix occurs without the undesirable side effects normally associated with glucocorticoids, it may serve as an alternative treatmeat to glucocorticoids for inflammatory skin diseases.
