Abstract

A 40-year-old male ex-smoker and ex-drug user was referred to a hospital dentistry service presenting enlargement in the face with few months of evolution. Upon physical examination, a red and bleeding tumor measuring 3.0 × 2.5 cm was observed on the posterior lower alveolar ridge extending to the right buccal mucosa. Two incisional biopsies were performed and sent for histopathologic and immunophenotyping analysis, considering the hypothesis of a malignant lesion. All exams' results led to diagnosis of lymphoplasmablastic lymphoma EC IIB (bulky cervical) associated with human immunodeficiency virus infection. Oncohematology evaluation indicated the presence of a hardened lesion measuring 10 cm on the right cervical region, in addition to nodules in the armpit, adrenal gland, and abdomen. Chemotherapy was conducted in parallel with antiretroviral therapy by a medical team. The hospital dental service was responsible for dental extractions and restorations as supportive treatment for chemotherapy with laser therapy for mucositis. The patient is doing well and is still under follow-up.
