Abstract

Background: Among ovarian germ cell tumors, less than 3% correspond to struma ovarii (SO), which refers to a monodermal teratoma composed in more than 50% by thyroid tissue; its malignant transformation may occur in 5 to 10% of cases, being papillary carcinoma the most frequent presentation.Malignant struma ovarii is a rare entity, with approximately 200 cases reported worldwide, there is no consensus with regard the optimal management and follow-up of this pathology; specifically, concerning to surveillance and adjuvant therapy.
