Abstract
The birth of every new Hadendowan takes place in the tent of the mother of the pregnant woman. After a boy is born there is always great joy. The women who have gathered start to sing, dance and ululate, and food is served. The men also celebrate, often with camel–racing and certainly with their famous dancing. The genders are scparated during the celebrations. Numerous women come from near and far to take part in events like this, and failure to participate is considered impolite and is greatly talked about. Celebrations are always welcomed, also as occasions for intensive exchange of news.
