Abstract

This paper emphasizes the organization of work as a major determinant of male/female relations. It describes, for the Machiguenga, the degree of solidarity or separation experienced by each sex in the work process and their relative authority over the social disposal of the products of work. Comparisons are made with other Lowland South American groups.
