Malamoeba scolyti sp.n.(Amoebidae, Rhizopoda, Protozoa) Parasitizing the Bark Beetles, Dryocoetes autographus Ratz., and Hylurgops palliatus Gyll.(Scolytidae, Coleoptera)

Abstract

The Malamoeba scolyti sp.n.has been recorded from two species of Bark Beetles, Dryocoetes autographus Ratz., and Hylurgops palliatus GYLL.collected in spruce stands of six localities of Lower Saxony. A life cycle incorporating the vegetative stages (trophozoites), precysts, and cysts is proposed.Hitherto unreported developmental forms, the multinuclear trophozoites-like plasmodia of amoeba of D.autographus, and H.palliatus, which is the causative agent of a ameobic disease in both species of ":Bark Beetles, are described. Some data to the prevalence of amoeba disease in comparison with other pathogen agents of Bark Beetles, have also been discussed.
