Abstract

Construction details are provided for simple heat engines that use candle wax andelastomers as working substances. The engines are constructed using commonhousehold materials and can be easily constructed in a school classroom or athome. They work reliably and are useful tools for demonstrating the conversion ofheat to mechanical work. They illustrate that functional engines do not have tobe the product of high-precision machining in specialist workshops, but can beconstructed from simple materials and simple tools without requiring any special skills.
