Erik Jonsson Professor of Urban Systems and Operations Research at the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management of Carnegie Mellon University. He has served as past president of the Operations Research Society of America and of The Institute of Management Sciences, and he was 1991–1992 President of the American Society of Criminology. He has chaired panels on research on deterrence and incapacitation, on sentencing, and on criminal careers of the National Research Council. His research interests include criminal careers, imprisonment policy and its impacts, and criminal justice planning.
