Abstract

This paper aims to measure the level of performance of the textile and clothing (TC) supply chain operations of the exporting companies in Egypt and to define and identify the effects of the major variables affecting this performance. A conceptual framework for this purpose was developed using literature and subject matter experts. A questionnaire was then administered on a sample of TC exporting companies in Egypt and the collected data was analysed using both descriptive and inferential techniques. The presented results show that the TC supply chain in Egypt is affected by four categories of supply chain operations. However, the importance of each category to TC supply chain performance differs; planning came first followed by delivering, making and sourcing. With a relatively low overall performance of 73%, it is clear that both the Egyptian government and the exporting companies need to exert more effort to enhance prospects of export success.
