Abstract

ABSTRACT There are more than 130 pests on Turkey's quarantine list including mites. However the important pests are associated with plant products imported from abroad and include Eutetranychus orientalis (Klein) (Tetranychidae), Phytonemus pallidus (Banks) (Tarsonemidae), Aculops fuchsiae (Keifer) (Eriophyidae) and Oligonychus perditus (Pritchard and Baker). Among these, Aculops fuchsiae (Keifer) and Oligonychus perditus (Pritchard and Baker), are not known to occur in Turkey and are restricted by internal quarantine (restricted importation). Although Eutetranychus orientalis (Klein) and Phytonemus pallidus (Banks) are present in Turkey to a limited extent, they are also subject to restricted importation. To prevent the spread of mites in international trade, plants and plant products are not allowed to enter Turkey unless quarantine measures are applied. Studies or analyses pertaining to certain species in Turkey are currently unavailable. Consequently, this study seeks to attract Turkish researchers to this topic and to raise awareness of phytosanitary measures by highlighting information on certain species, particularly their ways of distribution along with their hosts and symptoms. This article provides an overview of the report on Turkey's quarantine policies and procedures (Turkish Quarantine).
