Abstract

The process industries depend on industrial steam boilers for many of their operations. The availability of the steam boiler is a key concern, as it affects the performance and productivity of the process industry. The availability of the steam boiler and its components depends on its reliability and maintainability and can be enhanced by avoiding the number of failures and decreasing the time required for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities. System availability can be enhanced by identifying critical mechanical subsystems concerning failure frequency, reliability, and maintainability. This chapter presents a simplified framework for selecting time-to-failure (TTF) and time-to-repair (TTR) models for RAM analysis of the steam boiler system. The RAM characteristics, along with the preventive maintenance intervals at different reliability levels, have been estimated using the Weibull++10 ReliaSoft software package.
