Abstract

This article deals with the problem of migration and educational work with children-migrants in the USA. It is underlined that migration is widely spread today and many countries are involved in this process, including Ukraine. America is known as a country of migrants. This country differs from average multicultural countries in a range of peculiarities, one of which is the fact that cultural interaction was not within an individual ethnos, but within immigrants – descendants of different countries, representatives of various cultures. On the territory of the country there live national minorities and as a result of constant mass immigration new ethno-cultural groups are formed. It is recognized that problem of immigrants is really urgent in USA. Cultural diversity demands special approaches to the problem. One of them is the policy of multiculturalism and multicultural education. The aim of the study is to reveal the most important peculiarities of educational work with children-migrants in USA. Mainly theoretical research methods have been used in this study: analysis of American scientific sources for the: systematisation and generalisation of available data; defining of the essence of basic concepts; identification of the current state of the problem under consideration and possibilities for its solution. It is noted that educational work with children-migrants in USA is based on some particular principles (complex research of each pupil-migrant, individual approach, humanism, preservation of mental health and others). All of them are analyzed in the article. Special attention is paid to the problem of teachersʼ training in the context of multicultural education. It is emphasized that only competent multicultural teacher is able to work successfully with children-migrants and solve the problem of their adaptation and integration into the culture of other people. The possibilities of using positive American experience of the main principles of educational work with children-migrants in the context of multicultural education have been outlined.
