Abstract

The article deals with theoretical thesis, mechanics and key methods of regulation of the stress-strain state of soil. The regulation of soil stress-strain state is a relatively new direction of geotechnical design, which gives more opportunities to engineers. This approach is based on the idea that connection between the components of the stress-strain state can be used when it comes to the settlement reduction. Increasing of horizontal stresses reduces vertical deformation, but deviatoric stress has to be controlled as a parameter which is closely tied to the soil body collapse. By turn, critical deviatoric stress can be regulated by the increasing of the average normal stress. Mathematical modelling is to be used to achieve more accurate results with taking into consideration all the components of the stress-strain state. Two main principles underline any method of the regulation of soil stress-strain state: it can be based on a forced deformation or on a permanent pressure. The concepts and algorithms of the most used methods are described.
