Abstract

Mahogany Hammock virus, a new arbovirus of the Guama group, is described. It was isolated on 13 occasions from Culex (Melanoconion) spedes of mosquitoes and once from a cotton rat collected in the south Florida everglades and is the first representative of the Guama group to be found in the United States. Antigenically, it shows relationship to Guama, Moju, Catu and Bimiti viruses but is differentiated by serological tests.
