Abstract

The bronze image of the Buddha enshrined in the Mahamuni pagoda in the city of Mandalay, Myanmar, has a long history stretching back to more than twenty centuries. This ancient statue, known as the Mahamuni image, is most sacred to Burmese Buddhists due to its religious and historical significance. Hence, pilgrims and devotees, Buddhists or not, travelers and tourists from around the world visit the great Mahamuni image all the year round.
