Abstract

We present results for the magnetic thermal conductivity κ mag of the two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet La 2 CuO 4 and investigate the effect of hole doping which is achieved by substituting Sr for Cu. We find a drastic sensitivity of κ mag on this kind of doping, since κ mag is almost completely suppressed at tiny hole concentrations of about 1%. The data show that magnon–hole scattering is much more effective than scattering off static defects, which suggests that the hole mobility plays a crucial role for the importance of this type of magnon scattering.
