Abstract

The correlation between the large magnetovolume effect and longitudinal spin fluctuations in invar alloys is considered using γ-(Ni0.9-xFex)Mno.1, alloys and comparing their properties with γ-Ni1-xFex alloys. We have performed thermal, magnetic and magnetoelastic measurements to calculate the spontaneous and forced volume magnetostriction, magnetization, and high-field magnetic susceptibility. The parameters of the magnetoelastic interaction are obtained and the relation between the spontaneous volume magnetostriction and longitudinal high-field susceptibility is discussed to shed more light on the invar problem.
