Abstract
Magnetostrictive Fe-base amorphous ribbons are used to generate elastic oscillation and sound (magnetostriction) waves, which, passing through the magnetic field of a permanent magnet, are modulated and amplified. Heat-treating the ribbons resulted in increases in the magnetostriction wave amplitude, but also in the attenuation. Other problems, such as the need for a method to remove the residual magnetostriction and lack of uniformity in samples, are noted.
