Abstract
Magnetostriction on single crystals of Y 2Fe 17 and Er 2Fe 17 has been measured in pulsed high magnetic fields up to 15 T in the temperature range between 5 and 300 K. We have observed large jumps in the magnetostriction on Er 2Fe 17, related to first order magnetization processes induced when the magnetic field is applied along the hard magnetic c-axis.
