Abstract

The magnetostatic uniaxial anisotropy observed in metal magnetic films has been investigated theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical calculation has been carried out, assuming, for an assembly of magnetic particles, a simplified model where ellipsoidal magnetic particles form a three-dimensional periodic array and the direction of their major axes fluctuates from the longitudinal direction. The theoretical calculation has been found to be successful in interpreting the experimental results of the samples prepared in this work as well as those supplied by a few magnetic tape manufacturers.
