Abstract

The magnetostatic self-energy of a spherical magnetic particle is calculated for different multi-domain configurations with the domain separated by concentric cylindrical domain boundaries. The calculations therefore relate to the properties of materials with uniaxial crystalline anisotropy when the particles are just greater in size than the upper bound for single-domain behaviour. Energies are first calculated for particles containing up to four domains for various positions of the cylindrical boundaries. Finally a general expression is given for the magnetostatic energy of a particle with N such boundaries.
