Abstract
We have measured the temperature dependences of the various elastic constants of rare earth hexaborides. The characteristic features of the electron-strain interaction relating to the cooperative Jahn-Teller effect of PrB 6, NdB 6, DyB 6, the Kondo effect of Ce xLa 1−xB 6 and the valence fluctuating state of SmB 6 have been described.
