Abstract

The magnetomechanical damping of iron is measured in a.c. magnetic field under conditions of resonance. The influence of purity and of grain size is studied. A model is proposed to explain the damping variation, measuredvs. the shear strain amplitude, at various values of the a.c. field. Anomalous effects observed in this case are discussed.
