Abstract
YFe 11− x Co x Ti ( x=0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2) alloys with ThMn 12-type structure were synthesized by induction melting and subsequent carbonation. The second ( K 1) and the fourth ( K 2) order anisotropy constants and the anisotropy field ( μ 0 H A) were calculated from the transverse magnetization isotherms. A statistical distribution of the grains easy magnetization axis with regard to the orientation direction of the samples was used. K 1 and μ 0 H A decrease while K 2 increases with increasing temperature. The complex influence of Co on the anisotropy constants is shown. After carbonation the tendency is a drastic decrease of K 1 and μ 0 H A and a smaller increase of K 2. In the carbides, the influence of Co substitution on the magnetocrystalline anisotropy (MCA) is analyzed according to the individual site anisotropy model (ISA). The carbonation effect on the MCA might result from the crystalline electric field coefficient change.
