Abstract

Substitution effects on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in (La 1− x R x ) 2/3Ca 1/3MnO 3 (R=Gd, Dy, Tb, Ce) were studied. It was found that the Curie temperature T c decreases with increasing x, and that the maximum magnetic entropy change Δ S M always occurs at x=0.1 for all rare-earth dopants. The maximum magnetic entropy change |Δ S M | for a 15 kOe magnetic field change is 6.06 J/kg K for (La 0.9Dy 0.1) 2/3Ca 1/3MnO 3 around its Curie temperature (176 K).
