Abstract

The attenuation of longitudinal sound waves in the presence of a transverse magnetic field has been measured in potassium and fitted with the free-electron theory using the mean free path of the electrons as a parameter to be determined. A discrepancy is found, which is though to have the same origin as the anomalous magnetoresistance found by other workers in this material.
