Abstract

Electronic structure and effect of grain size on the electron transport and magnetic properties of La 0.85 Na 0.15 MnO 3 thin films and polycrystalline bulk have been investigated. As the grain size decreases, the magnetic transition temperature region becomes broad and the metal-semiconductor transition temperature shifts to lower temperatures. The X-ray photoelectron valence-band spectra are almost identical for amorphous thin film, thin film with 83.2 nm grain size and polycrystalline bulk, which supports the point that small polarons had been formed below the Curie temperature.
