Abstract

The present paper concerns the investigation of the stress, temperature and magnetic fields in an isotropic elastic cylinder of infinite length placed in a primary magnetic field when the curved surface of the cylinder is subjected to periodic loading. The generalised theory of thermo-elasticity proposed by Lord and Shulman [J. Mech. Phys. Solids, 1967, 15, 2991 is applied to account for finite velocity of heat propagation. Numerical values of the stress and temperature fields at various points of the cylindrical medium and numerical values of the perturbed magnetic field in the surrounding free space are computed for an appropriate material and the results are displayed graphically to illustrate the problem.
