Abstract

We present the first reports on nano-sized Co 100− x Cr x alloys (0⩽ x⩽40), prepared by the sonochemical decomposition of respective metal-organic precursors. Samples heat-treated at 900 °C, exhibit a negative magneto-resistance ratio ranging from −1 to −4% at room temperature and at a field of 4 Tesla, owing to the tunneling conduction mechanism, while those heat treated at 300 °C show an MR of about ∼2% at 4.2 K and 300 K. Co 100− x Cr x nano-alloys heat-treated at 300 °C show an hcp phase, while 900 °C sintered samples show a pure hcp phase for x=20 and 30 and a pure hcp phase for x=40 samples.
