Abstract

PtMnSb films on room-temperature and heated substrates were produced. The PtMnSb films made on room temperature substrates had a maximum Kerr rotation angle (θ <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">K</sub> ) of 0.41°, but the θ <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">K</sub> of films made on heated substrates reached 1.18° at T <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">sub</sub> = 400°C. Films produced at T <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">sub</sub> = 400°C had a columnar structure with a large perpendicular magnetization component, while those made at T <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">sub</sub> = 200°C had only an in plane magnetization component.
