Abstract

The study of local magnetic properties and near-surface micromagnetic structure of the as-cast and annealed at 500°C, 550°C and 600°C for 1 h Fe 73.5Cu 1Nb 3Si 13.5B 9 amorphous wires with 120-μm diameter were carried out employing scanning Kerr microscopy. The as-cast wire was discovered to have the strong inhomogeneity of the near-surface magnetic properties that was explained by the dispersion of the magnetic anisotropy. The annealed samples exhibited ultra-fine structure with grain size depending on temperature of annealing. The nanocrystalline phase formation in the annealed wires were found to lead to an improvement of their soft magnetic properties and a significant increase in the homogeneity of magnetic characteristics.
