Abstract

Microwave Faraday effect (FE), Voigt-Cotton-Mouton effect (VCME) and Voigt longitudinal magneto-absorption (VLMA) of paramagnetic compounds are studied through the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) absorption band. Experimental data are namely discussed by means of the ellipticity vs. rotation plot for FE, the rotation vs. ellipticity plot for VCME, and the relative absorption vs. phase shift plot for VLMA. These plots are circular in the lorentzian case, while they exhibit a typical flattening in the gaussian case, and permit a detailed study of other lineshapes. Like EPR absorption spectra, magneto-microwave effects related to EPR permit the determination of g-factors, linewidths, lineshapes and spin concentrations. Moreover, Magneto-microwave effects present particular advantages over first derivative EPR absorption spectra for the detection of very broad lines, the precise analysis of lineshapes, and the absolute determination of spin concentrations.
