Abstract

The superconducting transmission cable is one of the interesting parts in power application using high-temperature superconducting tape. An important issue in HTS transmission cable is AC losses because it is related with power transmission efficiency and the capacity of cryo-cooler in the case of operating below liquid nitrogen temperature. In power transmission cable, although it experiences no external field, any tapes constituting the transmission cable are exposed to magnetic fields given by currents flowing in other tapes of cable. Therefore, we think that magnetization loss as well as transport current loss is generated in transmission power cable. The magnetization loss has to be considered for cable design and efficiency estimation because it is about 30–50% of transport current loss in our calculation results.
