Abstract

Magnetization hysteresis of polycrystalline Bi(Pb)SrCaCuO samples was measured over a wide temperature range at applied fields up to 9 T using vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). The irreversibility (△M) was found to decrease nearly exponentially with temperature over the lower temperature regime and then more rapidly at higher temperatures, similar to behavior observed for YBaCuO samples [1]. The irreversibility of the Bi(Pb)SrCaCuO samples was also found to depend strongly on the applied field, particularly at higher temperatures, in contrast to YBaCuO, for which △M showed very little field dependence. The phase distribution of the polycrystalline Bi(Pb)SrCaCuO samples had a strong effect on the △M vs. magnetic field behavior.
