Abstract
A review of electronic structure and properties of various ruthenates is given. Competition of ferromagnetic ( I) and antiferromagnetic ( J) interactions in ruthenates Sr 2RuO 4, Ca 2RuO 4, Ca 2− x Sr x RuO 4 is discussed taking into account effects of strong electron correlations. Band narrowing due to RuO 6 octahedron rotations results in decreasing ferromagnetic effects and increasing antiferromagnetic one in Ca 2− x Sr x RuO 4 with decreasing x. At x=0 the Mott–Hubbard insulator antiferromagnetic state takes place in Ca 2RuO 4.
