Abstract

Principal magnetic susceptibilities of GVSH and V 3+:GASH measured from 300 to 77 K exhibit a decrease in anisotropy and rotation of the threefold c axis (the ferroelectric direction) by 90° in a magnetic field at 260 K. This rotation of the c axis is attributed to the Jahn—Teller effect. The trigonal-field and zero-field splittings have been obtained.
