Abstract

We have shown in a previous paper that iron can be grown in a low-spin ferromagnetic bct phase in (100) FeIr superlattices. Additional results on this system are given in this paper. The very good quality of the superlattices is shown to be due to the two-dimensional growth of both Fe on Ir and Ir on Fe. The ferromagnetic order is confirmed by Arrott plot experiments. Two magnetically dead layers are observed, which makes theoretical analysis of the magnetic properties difficult.
